The Renaissance of the Jewish Theater

Collages3Until 1938, the Jewish theater was one of the most significant niches in the Viennese art and in Austria in general. In fact, only in the last decade it regained its place under the spotlights.

It happened also because of the public issue of the ownership over the mythological Nestroyhof building, a subject which was discussed vastly. Well, one good thing came out of the story, actually two: Today there are two Jewish stages in Vienna.

Young Sea Captains

Hovlim_-_IDF_Spokesoffice_copyThe Israeli Navy is welcoming this week his new Sea Commanders. Now, the fresh captains in the navy will receive their second-lieutenant ranks and their officer sign, and this after a 2 years and 4 month long course. In the upcoming week they are expected to join the active operating force along Israel’s coasts.

“I’m sure people will carry on with me”

DSC_0020Last week, HaShavua brought a report about the Israeli exhibition – “Flags – The Travel” by Orna Lutski in the UN center in Vienna.

It was the first time that such an exhibition was allowed to be shown inside the UN building by an only-Israeli artist. This week, Pro-Palestine hackers hacked the webpage of the artist.

The big blue smoke

During this year many discussions and debates were involved around the subject. The Austrian Health Minister even declared a second round in the war against the blue smoke and said that if the law will not be enforced, further steps will be taken.

A new band in town

In the last few months a new band is touring around in Vienna promising people “FUN FUN FUN!!!” a bit of cry and a lot of pleasure. FRESH FLESH is gigging for the first time in the Chelsea Club, and they want to tell everyone their story. The young crowed, who is usual to the studies-love-work mess in their lives, might find also their life story between the lines.

The security and cleaning troops continue

UBahnThe city of Vienna has employed since the beginning of November cleaning and security troops that operated in the U-stations in the city. Last week, the Vice-Mayor of Vienna and the public transportation company Wiener Linien declared that the troops will continue until 2011.
